Arrived in Sandown I.O.W. as a family of four (2 adults 2 children) on 14 Aug 2010. First impression was of a tired and rundown holiday resort which had clearly seen better days probabaly twenty years ago or more. Our guest house was run by a very friendly and welcoming family who seemed quietly embarassed that they and us had to live nextdoor to a wrecked and delapidated hotel for a neighbour, luckily for us only for 1 week. Sandown unfortunately has too many rundown ex hotels and large houses which now seemed to be turned into bedsits for the bums and dregs of society. We as a family have travelled the world, including America most of Europe, Eastern Europe Greece e.t.c. however this was the first time I never went out for a pint in the evening on my own. Put simply the pubs are full of underage youths drunk and fighting, kids play areas with kids running about like animals when people try to eat and just general scruffyness. Total restaurant poor service complacency seems the norm.
