St Beat is very close to the Spanish Border and the Val d'Aran. It is also only 20km from Bagneres de Luchon and St Bertrand de Comminges.
The village is very old with some interesting buildings. It is still famous for its marble and in July a sculptor visits and spends each day creating a brnad new sculpture for the village. The village has lots of sculptures just dotted around.
Situated on the Garonne river which I am told is great for fishing.
The village is ideal for skiers, walkers, cyclists and bikers. The Col de Mente starts in the village and St Beat is also close to the Port de Bales, Col de Portillon and Col de Peyresourde, favour Tour de France routes.
There is a local ski resort Le Mourtis, only 10km from the centre of the village but also it is only 20 minutes to the ski lift at Superbagneres and then just a little futher to Peyregudes.
The village has a small supermarket, a bar, two hairdressers, a pharmacy, bank, bakers, butchers, wine shop and campsite.
